Northern Gauteng Touch Association was officially formed in 2000, shortly before the Northerns Mens Open team, coached by Gustav de Wet, participated in their first Inter-Provincial Tournament. The following year saw the first ever ladies team representing Northern Gauteng, coached by Mr. Sean Smith.
Known as the "Northerns Knights" at the time, Northerns began to flourish in 2003, when Messrs Gustav de Wet, Sean Smith and Bogart Butler returned from representing South Africa at the Touch World Cup in Japan. They used their experiences to implement structures within the province that would lead to Northerns participating in their first Junior Inter-Provincial Tournament in 2004.
Under the guidance of former Chairman, Mr. Glenn Clarke (Now SATA President), Northerns went from strength to strength, becoming a force to be reckoned with in South African touch, producing multiple national players and winning various honours along the way - most notably becoming Mens Open Champions in 2017 and defending their crown in 2018.
We pride ourselves on being a family on and off the field. We believe that we are better together and that 'success is no accident'. We are Northerns!
